I'm checking in because I have some news I'd like to share. You may have noticed that I've taken a hiatus from blogging for several months. This was a purposeful break to allow me to focus on my own health. In that time, I have been doing my usual (e.g., research & teaching, working with people one on one and in small groups to help them make health behavior changes) plus some extras (e.g., starting (and ending) a relationship, traveling, becoming a dog mom again).
Regarding being a dog mom...I have a new (old) dog child (lady). That's her in the picture attached to this blog. She is a tiny rescue mix (probably Maltese + other small dogs) that was found on the highway by the Dairy Queen in the small town where my mom lives. While I appreciate the name suggestions one friend provided – Hunger Buster or Dip Cone – I went with Lulu. Lulu has come along at the perfect time. She is lots of strong in a little package; less than 8lb, but mighty. She has survived a lot over the past couple of months, but adapts quickly - nothing seems to bother her. I have not had a dog since I lost my last dog, Otis, about 5 years ago, and I'm enjoying getting to know a new little soul.
My primary reason for this post is to let you know about a podcast episode (please see below for the audio) that was just released where I was interviewed about my decision to not have children. The podcast is called "Is Child-Free for Me?" and is meant to be a forum for people who have decided, or are in the process of deciding, whether or not they want to have children. I am honored to be part of a community that can provide support for individuals who are unsure about having children, as well as those who have decided and may be in the minority.
Listening to the episode in which I am interviewed would also be a way for you to learn more about me, get a better sense of my personality, and hear me speak about the aforementioned life things I've been doing lately and why I've been on a blogging break. If you listen to the episode, please note that it was recorded a couple of months ago. Since then, as I mentioned above, I am no longer in a relationship or dog-less. Also, I'm now very aware of my Texas accent!
I hope all is well in your worlds.
Much Love Y'all,
