About Lara

I earned PhD and Masters degrees in Health Education/Health Behavior from The University of Texas at Austin (UT), where I focused on obesity treatment/prevention, and more specifically, nutrition-related behaviors.  I completed my postdoctoral training at Cornell University in Behavioral Economics/Food Psychology. I have a B.S. in Exercise and Sport Science from Texas Tech University, hold an American College of Sports Medicine Health Fitness Instructor certification, and completed a Plant-Based Nutrition Certification through Cornell.

I serve as a Research Program Coordinator & teach an undergraduate class (Child & Adolescent Health) at UT, and I teach for the Walden University Masters of Public Health program.

With over 18 years of experience in the health/wellness field, I bring a unique perspective given my background in industry, healthcare, and academia.

I currently reside in Austin, TX (aka my soul city) and spend my time reading (about 1.5 pages in bed each night before I fall asleep), laughing (I am easily amused), listening (to music, podcasts, and people!), and connecting (with nature, myself, loved ones, and strangers).

My preferred activities include running, walking, biking, swimming, boxing, and yoga-ing, and I am getting back into these after a long hiatus due to some health issues. I also enjoy playing the piano, loving on my little dog (Lulu), expressing my creativity (check out some of the photos on my website), and my volunteer work with Divine Canines, a therapy dog organization.
